About 2020 Year-End Gifts
The end of the calendar year is a time when many people make charitable gifts and take advantage of the tax benefits for doing so.* A gift before December 31 can be beneficial by reducing your income taxes while providing meaningful support for YWCA El Paso del Norte Region. Members of the organization’s fund development staff will be in the office during the holidays to answer questions about making a gift before 2020 ends.
NEW 2020 Tax Provisions: CARES Act Legislation
Taxpayers who don’t itemize may now deduct up to $300 per year in charitable contributions.
Taxpayers who itemize may deduct up to 100% of their adjusted gross income (AGI). This is for 2020 only. Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Acts (TCJA), you may deduct up to 60% of AGI in charitable contributions, so taxpayers with an AGI of $100,000 may only deduct $60,000. Under CARES Act Legislation, that same taxpayer may deduct the full $100,000 in charitable contributions, wiping out tax liability entirely.
Corporations were permitted to deduct up to 10% under TCJA, and under the CARES Act may deduct up to 25% through the end of 2020. Contributions in excess of 25% may be deducted over the next 5 years.
Corporations may also deduct up to 15% for all contributions of food.
