Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® has gone virtual!
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is going to look a little different in 2020. While COVID-19 has made it impossible for us to gather together, we can still walk to make a difference!
Here’s what we are asking:
- Register for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2020 here
- Crowdfund to reach your goal (reach out to your friends, family, colleagues, vendors at work, your dentist– everybody!)
- Sometime between October 12 and October 25, slip on your high heels and take a walk! Share your photos using #ywcawalkamile or emailing them to k.suarez@ywcaelpaso.org
- Make a difference in the lives of women and children who have survived domestic violence
Domestic violence has increased across the country since the start of COVID-19. Families were forced inside without school or work and faced high-stress situations. At YWCA, we have continued to provide shelter and support to our residents, including providing masks, health checks, and more. But we still need your help. This event helps support our Transitional Living Center for the entire year and so it must be a success! Please register or donate today!
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® is the “International men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence.” This is a pledge-based fundraiser where men walk in high heels to raise awareness of issues of domestic violence, abuse, sexual assault, and other forms of violence. Funds raised will support services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault at YWCA’s Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center. The TLC provides housing, case management, life skills, education opportunities, and much more to women and their children who are experiencing homelessness. The majority of women and families who live at the TLC are survivors of domestic violence, abuse, or other trauma. Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® benefits these women and children and makes it possible for them to achieve independence and a second chance.
