YWCA El Paso del Norte Region to offer discounts up to 60% for Veterans, Dependents, and Surviving Spouses

YWCA El Paso del Norte Region (YWCA) was once again awarded a grant from Texas Veterans Commission to provide significantly reduced rates to veterans, veteran dependents, and surviving spouses. All veterans, regardless of income, dependents, including minor children, and surviving spouses will be eligible to receive the special rates, which are up to 60% off the regular program fees. YWCA was awarded the grant in 2018 and exceeded their goal of individuals served by 130%. As a result, the funds awarded for the 2019-2020 year doubled.  The rates apply to YWCA Summer Camps, Fitness and Aquatics Centers, After School Programs, and Early Learning Academies.

With the special rates, veterans, veteran dependents, and surviving spouses needing childcare can turn to YWCA’s Early Learning Academies (daycare) and pay between $44 and $49 a week, those who require after school care can expect to pay $20 a week, and individuals looking to use the organization’s gyms and fitness centers will pay $14 a month for access to weight rooms, fitness classes, indoor pools, and more and families will pay $44 a month.

“Ensuring that we provide programs that help empower veterans and their families is critical to our mission. In the last year, we provided these services to more than 200 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses,” said Sylvia Acosta, Ph.D., CEO of YWCA. “We are proud to be able to honor veterans in a way that is truly beneficial to them and their families and we plan to increase the number of El Pasoans we serve through this program in the next year.”

The discounted rates are contingent on funding availability and discounts vary by program. Funding is limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. All veterans are eligible for the special rates, but must show proof of veteran status. To begin the verification process, any veteran, their dependent, or a surviving spouse can visit any YWCA branch or call 915-519-0000.
