Assistant Branch Manager
Pay Rate: Hourly: $11.37/hr

JOB SUMMARY:
Under continual supervision, is responsible for the design, development, marketing, implementation, management, and evaluation of all fitness, aquatic, leisure learning programs for assigned branch (es).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: to perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance in the workplace is an essential function of this position.

1. Regular attendance at Employer’s place of business and/or during particular hours, as assigned, is an essential function of this position. Employee must comply with and follow YWCA’s attendance policy at all times, unless a reasonable accommodation is requested and granted, as required by law.
2. Under the supervision of the Administrator, schedules, supervises, trains, evaluates and counsels staff to achieve outstanding fitness/aquatic services and personnel.
3. Works closely with Administrator to ensure that assigned branch is well managed and objectives are clearly identified and met, as well as to promote positive communications throughout.
4. Supervises and implements fitness/aquatic center programs including fitness assessments, program recommendations, weight room/cardio orientations, personal training, youth fitness, and active older adult programs.
5. Supervises, leads and develops instructors within assigned facility. Maintains a weekly class schedule and leads group classes in both fitness and aquatic programming as needed to meet business demands.
6. Researches, designs, plans, recommends implementation, and evaluates new programming ideas and networks within the fitness industry. Analyzes competitive programs.
7. Assists Administrator in collaborating with the Marketing Department to plan and develop effective marketing and promotional activities and strategies designed to grow membership.
8. Maintains facilities’ key and maintenance logs by branch.
9. Ensures proper document management, storage and accessibility as required to comply with policies, procedures and licensing standards for pools and equipment.
10. Coordinates and assists with training, technical support and back-up for assigned support areas and fitness and aquatics programs as assigned.
11. Assists in evaluating and maintaining established safety standards in all department programs.
12. Supervises equipment maintenance and upkeep of fitness and aquatic areas and reports need for purchase of supplies and equipment within department budget.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School graduate or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant sport/exercise/health sciences management related degree is desirable.
2. Minimum one (1) year fitness/health/wellness management level experience in a Health & Fitness club/facility required. An equivalent combination of education, skills and experience will be considered.
3. Must have current CPR and First Aid certification or obtain within two weeks.
4. Must obtain in-house certifications for both fitness and aquatics within first month. National certification required within (1) one year of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
5. Lifeguard Certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
6. Possession of current Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certifications preferred.
7. Must demonstrate strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal, customer care, conflict resolution skills, and a high level of enthusiasm.
8. Basic knowledge of sales and marketing, business management and basic accounting principles are essential for this hands-on business and people management role. Must be detail oriented.
9. Must have a working knowledge of PC and Microsoft software including Word and Excel and basic data entry skills.
10. Basic knowledge in the fields of exercise physiology, kinesiology, exercise leadership, and nutrition.
11. Must be able to perform physical fitness instruction, move quickly among facility locations, and travel independently to work sites as required.
12. Must have knowledge and skills to conduct physical fitness screenings and exercise counseling activities, and to convey information to people about exercise and other wellness related issues through teaching and personal fitness coaching.
13. Knowledge and skills for training new exercise instructors in activities that may include aerobics, fitness walking, jogging, step aerobics, weight training, and fitness evaluations is required.
14. Must be able to lead group classes in both fitness and aquatic programming on a weekly basis.
15. Must be able to work under pressure with constant interruptions.
16. Must be able to work independently and autonomously.
17. Must have access to a personal vehicle and have insurance in accordance with minimum State requirements.

Dorothy W. Hunt  Branch                                                                                Mon – Fri. (hours vary) (1 position)

Leads and coordinates individual or group adult aerobics and physical fitness sessions for a specified health and fitness program. Develop new aerobics and fitness programs for various age groups, especially elderly population.

EXPERIENCE
One (1) to three (3) years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; or must have taken fitness classes consistently within past year; or must be recommended by Fitness & Aquatics manager for in house training.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to supervise and instruct participants in proper movements to maximize workouts.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  • Access to vehicle with required liability insurance and valid driver’s license if working at multiple locations.

 

Lifeguard    

 Pay Rate: Hourly $10

 

 Dorothy Woodley Hunt Branch                                                                       Mon – Sat. (hours vary) (1 positions)

 Shireley Leavell  Branch
Mon – Sat. (hours vary) (1 positions)

Ensures safety of patrons of aquatic facility; prevents and responds to emergencies. Performs routine pool maintenance activities.

EDUCATION
16+ years old. High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Nationally recognized lifeguard certification.

 EXPERIENCE
One (1) year lifeguard experience preferable, or any equivalent experience and/or training providing required knowledge, skills, abilities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of water safety, pool chlorination and filtration systems.
  • Excellent swimming skills.
  • First Aid/CPR certified.
  • Able to interact positively and communicate well. Able to analyze situations and make decisions.
  • Good physical condition needed to lift/carry persons in water.
  • Access to vehicle with required liability insurance and valid driver’s license when if performing duties at multiple locations.

 

Aquatics Trainer ( Swim Instructor)
Pay Rate: Hourly

EXPERIENCE
16+ years old. Nationally recognized lifeguard certification. One (1) year experience as swim instructor and must be experienced in working with children. One (1) year lifeguard experience required, or any equivalent experience and/or training providing required knowledge, skills, abilities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
