SARA MCKNIGHT TRANSITIONAL LIVING CENTER

The face of homelessness is changing, with women and children becoming the fastest growing portion of the homeless population. YWCA El Paso del Norte Region’s Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center provides a bridge to successful independence for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The YWCA provides all participants support through intensive case management, counseling, financial empowerment services, job search assistance, and educational opportunities to assist them in achieving self-sufficiency. We provide a safe and secure housing environment in a manner that builds self-esteem, self-respect and respect for others.

The Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center (TLC) provides housing for 39 homeless women at a time with or without children. If you or someone you know would like more information about living at the TLC, please call 915.566.2762.

Program Participants Receive:

In addition, the TLC offers an Adult Education Academy that helps women with their GED in English and Spanish. The Center is staffed 24 hours per day. The YWCA TLC is a noted and caring place for women and children who have experienced homelessness, domestic violence or trauma.

Impact

The primary goal of the YWCA TLC is to help women obtain self-sufficiency and permanent housing. Since its inception, the TLC has provided housing and support to 1,353 women and their children. 39 women and their children can live at the TLC at one time, while actively pursuing self-identified and mutually agreed upon goals. Residents work closely with a case manager and participate in support groups with other women and children in the program. Transitional Housing Support Groups offer participants opportunities for educational and enriching experiences while promoting positive peer support, collective sharing, and an increased sense of community.
The YWCA Transitional Housing Program Empowers Women to:
• Obtain and remain in permanent housing
• Increase their job training skills and/or income
• Achieve greater self-determination and self-sufficiency
