Fair Housing Outreach and Education

We work with the City of El Paso and HUD to affirmatively further fair housing in the community of El Paso. Working with the City of El Paso Fair Housing Office and Fair Housing Taskforce, we educate the community and its housing professionals to identify and eliminate illegal housing practices and other fair housing issues present in the community. We create awareness of discriminatory practices through distribution of informational materials and community presentations, information fairs, education classes and website information. We also assist residents who encounter illegal, unfair and / or discriminatory treatment by assisting them with HUD complaint process.

Denial of housing opportunities to people because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, children or disability is known as housing discrimination. It is illegal under the federal Fair Housing Act.

The Fail Housing Act, a law enforced by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is a federal law that protects you from housing discrimination. If you believe you were treated unfairly because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability or familial status, you have the right to file a complaint with HUD.
