1600 Brown Street
In 1989 the Central Branch on Brown Street was renamed in honor of Joyce Whitfield Jaynes a long time supporter and volunteer of our local YWCA and the YWCA USA. Joyce lost her mother at age seven and her father at age 10. She carried her parents’ example of community service through her life and has been a very successful fundraiser on numerous YWCA Capital Campaigns.
Joyce has been a member and President of the YWCA El Paso Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the YWCA Metropolitan Advisory Panel. Besides her service with the local YWCA, Joyce served on the YWCA National Board for over 12 years.

The Joyce Jaynes Branch recently received a very special new addition:
A mosaic mural by Kathryn Gelinas and Terry C. Wright is being installed with the support of the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
The artists invited the children, families and staff of the YWCA to paint individual tiles which were used in the creation of this beautiful public artwork on the patio of the YWCA Joyce Jaynes branch at 1600 Brown.
