El Paso del Norte Region

Caring for Children

The YWCA is the largest provider of non-profit child care in the city of El Paso, caring for more than 1,300 children daily. YWCA Early Learning Centers are high-quality, caring places that address children’s academic, developmental and physical needs. Each state-licensed center offers balanced, nutritious, home cooked meals, convenient hours for working families, and dedicated, well-trained staff. We are child care partners for: UTEP, EPCC, the Children’s Learning Institute, EPISD, The Housing Authority of the City of El Paso, and the Department of Defense. The YWCA has also partnered with the Department of the Army and Army Child Care in Your Neighborhood program to provide program materials and equipment to support the national accreditation of our Early Learning Centers.

After School Care

Research has shown that quality after school programs help students apply themselves academically, reduce grade repetition, finish high school and increase their readiness for college. During the school year, more than 1,400 children throughout the county participate in over 50 YWCA after school programs. YWCA activity leaders and assistants are at each school site before the dismissal bell rings. Children begin their homework assignments and enjoy healthy snacks, games, crafts, outdoor recreation and tutoring.

A unique curriculum is utilized to support efforts to standardize after school activities and programming throughout the region. Staff continue to institute standards provided by the Council on Accreditation to aid in facilitating the YWCA’s work toward national accreditation at all after school sites.

Summer Camp  and Summer Care Programs

Our Summer Camp, for children ages 6-12, is a full day indoor/outdoor camp program held at our beautiful Mary Ann Dodson Camp facility in the Upper Valley. A healthy breakfast, lunch and snack are served daily. Parents may enroll their child in a variety of classes (music, ballet, gymnastics, cheer, martial arts, swim lessons) on premise, during the day.
